Brian Turner brought more than a pinch of glamour and a dash of humour to Job Scene in Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on Friday 8 October 2004.

Appearing on stage with DJ Darren Daley to talk about his career and judge a competition between students from Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies, the celebrity chef proved himself to be a winner with the audience.

Committed to excellence in training for young people, Brian was enthusiastic about Job Scene’s dedication to helping them get the information they need to make informed decisions about their future.

"Job Scene is a great forum for discussing the future of so many interested young people. Vocational skills develop more and more and this was a great chance to show young people what the future can hold for them,” said Brian Turner, CBE.

Brian gave helpful tips on cooking and becoming a chef, signed autographs and talked informally with exhibitors and visitors alike at the recruitment, training and education event.

A fully equipped stage enabled training providers and colleges to demonstrate their students’ skills and highlight their appearance at the event and the full stage programme was compered by a professional DJ.

The event aims to bring companies and career hunters together, face to face under one roof in an entertaining, but relaxed atmosphere.

Exhibitors can also present interactive demonstrations on their stands to attract visitors to them as Darren Mossman HR consultant, Phones 4U Ltd commented: “Over the two days we have seen some quality candidates that are job ready. The event as ever has been great. The variety of demonstrations was very good.“

More than 11,000 visitors poured through the doors over the two days to gain access to thousands of opportunities and gain expert advice in free seminars and advice clinics with many making their way straight to the stage to witness Brian Turner in action.

A courtesy bus brought many visitors from the city centre to the event which was free to enter and open to everyone from 16 to 65 including career changers, the unemployed, returners to work, school, college and university leavers.

Birmingham EYDCP Childcare Recruitment Team, the School of Nursing & Midwifery University of Southampton and the West Midlands Fire Service are just three of the exhibitors who rushed to secure their stands for next year’s event on 13 & 14 October 2005.

“It’s been an excellent event. We have been to many shows but this has been the best venue! We’ve reached the appropriate target audience. It’s surpassed our expectations!” said Tony Weir, recruitment support officer for the West Midlands Fire Service
