Supporter of Focus on Food, Britain’s food education support programme for primary and secondary schools, Brian launched the projects latest Cooking Bus in Halifax, West Yorkshire at the end of June.
The new Bus, a full size teaching Kitchen will join the project’s two sister Buses on their mission to teach 18,000 youngsters to cook every year . The Cooking Bus funded by regional development agency, Yorkshire Forward, will tour Yorkshire and Humber schools giving hands on cooking lessons and encouraging youngsters to consider a career in the food and drink industry.
After the launch Brian gave the Royal Society of Arts Annual Focus on Food Lecture at Focus on Food’s headquarters at Dean Clough, to a packed audience in The Viaduct Theatre. Over 400 guests, teachers, business people, representatives from the food and drink industry and catering colleges attended to hear Brian. The lecture covered Brian’s quest to improve opportunities for young people to learn cooking skills at school and = his own experiences as a junior chef and later career.
